Stereo problems

Featured Replies

Happy New Year to you all....

I have a problem with my stereo - just wondering if anyone else has had something similar......

Sometimes I get a really bad crackling from the rhs speakers - I have figured out that it is only from the CD player and not the radio - it affects both the front and rear speakers. I am assuming that this is from the CD player as it is not linked to volume.

I did mention this to my dealer when it was in for a service but they did FA about it - DOH!

Another thing - I have done the mod involving cutting flaps in the cover inside the front doors - will this give me any problems if the dealers spots it? I am 99% sure the problem is not speaker related, but you never know......

Cheers

*If* you had done any damage to the speaker cable when cutting the lining, this would have been crackling in all forms (radio \ CD \ tape etc)

As it's CD only I would look at the cable between the changer and the head unit - it's easy to check the connection at the CD changer end, less so in the dashboard if you are not au fait with pulling out head units.

I would suggest checking \ pushing \ moving the cable nr the CD changer whilst playing a cd, see if you can hear any crackles etc or if it resoilves it, then talk to the dealer again about checking the head unit connection or testing with a new changer \ cable etc.

My RS was delivered with a really bad crackling problem from all speakers whenever a CD was played. Radio and tapes were fine.

Turned out to be a fault on the head-unit. Took forever to get a replacement as this was during the great parts warehouse move. :(

I believe my dealer had at least one other car with a similar problem delivered around that time (Feb/Mar 02)
