2005 Fabia VRS intermittent misfire

Featured Replies

Have an annoying intermittent misfire resembling two cylinders working/firing when the car is being driven slowly at low revs, approx 10mph..

First thing, car shudders as goes from normal working on 4 cylinders down to what seems only 2 cylinders.

Revving the engine does nothing to increase revs, no warning lights are lit on dash-board.

Releasing the throttle pedal altogether, while it's still misfiring, engine will go from 2 cylinders working back-up to 4 cylinders, and from then on everything is normal.

Also recently, starting the engine from cold, after the glow-plugs light go out, is quite normal, but, when engine very warm/hot the engine will spin over quickly but not start until after 6 -7 spins of the engine.

I have read on this site it could be a Camshaft sensor, but have no idea where to locate or if within my DIY capabilities, or whether special tools are required.

At this moment in time, I just wish the dam thing to totally break-down so I could get the garage to pin-point problem and fix...

Welcome all members with plausible help, thank you..

Scan it....

Basically best to get it scanned.

Could be camshaft problems, wiring loom for injectors or somthing els.

Just had the car scanned and told (as members on this site predicted) camshaft sensor was the problem..

New sensor fitted, bill for £160.00 in total, which includes £59.00 labour , £35.00 for scan, £39.00 sensor and £26.00 for the old VAT.

If in hindsight I knew where the dam sensor lived. and didn't need any special tools I would have fitted myself..LOL

Too little too late..eh?

On a 2005 car I wouldn't bet that everything would be so easy. Snapped bolts and heat hardened wiring could so easily casue more problems if you haven't got the extra nouse. (I don't BTW). :)
