2002 skoda fabia front wheel bearing race

Featured Replies

Anyone know the dimensions in mm of the 2002 Skoda Fabia 1.9 sdi front wheel bearing race? (i.e: inner diameter, outer diameter (width) and thickness/depth (as opposed to width). Thanks, Dennis

The wheel bearing comes pre assembled with the hub. Not sure if they can be separated, that and given the issues with installing bearings with a press etc I wouldn't bother. Buy an assembled bearing and use the correct puller to install.

Thanks for your reply.

Viktor, my wizard Russian mechanic can and has replaced bearings in hubs. In the middle of nowhere here. Pressing out and replacing the bearing race is the only viable option time and price-wise. He's loaded with tools and can literally rebuild anything. Wish there were more like him in the world. If he had the dimensions of the race he wouldn't have to take out the old race to get the dimensions and, thus, would save time. For example, once he beats out the old race he can't re-install it to keep me mobile as an option until the new race arrives. He needs the new race and then he'll act.

Yes but these bearings are Gen2 and cannot be pressed in by the hub flange or it will ruin them. You need a special tool to fit them.

Unfortunately the rear of the hub is actually bigger than the bearing and was formed with a press in the manufacturing process to set the preload on the bearing.

So if you want to try and fit just a bearing you will need a lathe to machine this part of the hub away.

This will leave you with the problem of retaining the bearing into the carrier and tightening the driveshaft nut to preload the bearing.

I don't get this at all.

I'll try and take some pictures to show a dismembered hub over the weekend.

Interesting video!! Never seen front bearings done like that, good to know

Here is the hub cut in half with the inner races removed :-
