It can only be the foam seal behind the light surley?

although the water looks quite high up, even above the light fitting.

Can you see if the boot seal is ever damp when you open it?

No it all looks fine it looks like it is actually running down the chassis somehow although i spent a while searching and it might be the rear wiper washer jet leaking so i drained the tank and ran the rear washer till it ran out to test if it is actually that, hopefully find a fix soon because the smell is horrible

Does the tailgate stick out further than the rear lights when it is shut? Could be water getting past the seal.

If so, you may be able to adjust the boot catch to hold the tailgate tighter to the body. It's held in place by two bolts, simply loosen them slightly then push and hold the catch in as far as it will go and re-tighten.

Could be thnks will have a look

It's worth a punt as it's a free fix. There have been others on here though who had leaking washer pipes, which sometimes end up filling up the spare wheel well, so wouldn't rule that out either.

I think the washer pipe runs up the passenger side of the car, not sure where it goes from behind the rear seats i suppose.

interesting... How old is the fabia, what sort of milage?

just thinking it could be the seal around the window failing maybe?
