Wipers fixed but now this! Any advice greatly welcomed!

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Had a major issue with my wipers and had a new wiper motor installed, the linkage cleaned and lubricated and also a new relay fitted. They now work fine.

However, as soon as I started driving home (the garage was closed the minute I left as late in day), the ESP warning light came on (yellow) and stayed on. The turbo wasn't working and the engine was extremely loud. Almost as if it is in limp mode. So the car is now back at the garage (not a skoda dealer).

Just wondering if there's any work involved in the changing of the wiper motor and relay that could possible dislodge something that might create this fault? It seems a little bizarre to me. The car was working perfectly (apart from the wipers!) when it was taken in.

Thanks

Might just have been coinsidence, the only thing close to the wiper linkage is the ECU but should not need to be touched to replace wiper linkage, (replaced mine with no issues). The only other thing might be where the relay was replaced if they disturbed any wiring around it? Still think its just coinsidence though. Best thing to do is get it plugged into VCDS and check for fault codes.

Hello Simspj,

Many thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. I'll wait and see what they say and keep my fingers crossed!! It just seems a bit strange when the car was 100% ok when it went in (apart from wipers). Then the ESP suddenly comes on the moment the car leaves the garage. Bizarre!!

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

It maybe an ABS sensor that has failed but only a scan of the codes will tell you what it is.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply again. Would a faulty ABS sensor cause the turbo etc to not function properly? Apologies for all the daft questions.

That I'm not sure about sorry. A scan of it will bring up any fault codes, thats the best place to start.

Thank you again.

Have done some digging round and it seems the relay that is directly above the one that would have been replaced is relay 109 which is the ECU power supply relay. Wonder if that might be a factor. Will let you know! Thanks again

109 relays are prone to failing so I've heard, so that could be the problem. [emoji106]

Seems to be all sorted now. Called garage and they said it was ready to be picked up. I asked what the problem was and the reply was "the fuse".

There's no charge so I'm assuming something was accidentally removed during the initial repairs . Thanks for your help.

No problem. Sounds like they did something they shouldn't have done.
