Morning gents,

I've had an issue with my car for the past month. Every so often I keep getting the emissions error light come on, the control system for exhaust icon. Then after thirty seconds or so I go into limp mode and the traction control light comes on. If I restart the engine, it will go away and sometimes come back. I have done a couple long journeys recently and the problem seems to disappear. I've just had a service including a full egr clean out and the problem still occurs.

Firstly, anyone had any experience of this? And secondly whats the cheapest code reader I can buy to check this out

I got one of these and installed vcds-lite from rosstech.

Works fine for mine for scanning.

Is that program from Ross tech free?

yep.

It says that full scans are not supported by the lite version, but it did a full scan for me without any issues.

vag-com / VCDS is great for reading fault codes and other basic diagnostics.

 

As for the fault, id guess its the actuator on your turbo starting to stick very slightly.
