Possible Xenon Fault

Featured Replies

Hi All, been an age since I needed to post a question as the Scout has been running so well! However I have had a possible issue over the weekend and searches on here didn't get me all the way to a solution.

My Scout has the AFS Xenon from factory and on Friday evening heading for Wales I noticed that the driver side light didn't do the up and down load levelling part of the "xenon dance", but continued to do the right left. It therefore stayed resolutely in the "safe/faulty" down position. The passenger side continued to behaved fully as normal and there was no warning light on the dash.

I was eventually able to get VCDS plugged last night.  A quick scan revealed no error codes, so I suspected a mechanical issues with the light unit :swear: . However going into the module in VCDS i was able to test the movement of the lights, telling them to move left/right, up/down and centre. The details in the tests seemed to indicated that there was the majority of the load on the front of the car as suspected. Unfortunately i've not found anything on VCDS wiki as to what the detailed data meant, so didn't play around!

So my questions are a follows:

I know there are load sensors (front & back), but how many are there? Reading around didn't tell me if there are 2 x front & 2 x rear i.e. one per corner or not.

Could the sensors fail and not stop an error code?

Can hitting a bump cause the Xenons to "lock or stick" in one position?

Is there anything else i can look for as to a possible cause?

All seems to be working as normal again; but i'm no believer that these things just "cure themselves"!

I believe there is one senser on the front suspension and one on the back, so would expect a faulty senser to effect both lights.

My geuss would be a sticky motor or dodgy xenon control module, but I would have thought this would have thrown a fault code.
