flashing battery light on 1.9 diesel estate

Featured Replies

we have a 2000 skoda octavia 1.9 diesel estate and upon starting the car up it was noticed that the battery light kept flashing on and off, my husband whos an engineer has tested the battery with a battery tester, thats good, its at 12v, but when he starts the engine it goes down to 10.5v..and he cant understand why, can anyone who maybe has had the same problem help...xx

I would say you have a fault with the alternator. You need to start the car and at idle with no accessories switched on, check the battery voltage. It should read between 13.7-14.2 volts at idle. If you don't get the lower of the two, the alternator is not charging the battery.
