Ok I got my new wireless router all set up, but I have a problem

I can see and access files on my laptop from my main computer, but I cant see and access files on my main computer from my laptop

I have set sharing, run the networking wizard and all that stuff, both computers show in networking in Explorer but when i try to access the main computer from laptop I get "you do not have permission to access these files"

what have I done wrong anyone any ideas please ?

both Laptop and Main computer running XP Pro

edited to say, Main computer is wired to router and Laptop is wireless if that makes any difference

Two things to check...

1) What are the permissions on the shared files? Are they viewable by everyone?

2) If they're not vieweable by everyone - when you log into your laptop with a username and password...do you have a user set up on the PC with the same username/password?

How do I check permissions ?

In the drive properties I have set sharing

I dont have logon set on the laptop or main puter it just boots straight into windows

You have to bear in mind, theres 2 levels of "permissions" for sharing

theres the actual share permissions that are set when you make a share. and theres also permissions on the actual files/folders on the drive (irrespective of if they are shared or not)

if you right click on the folder youve shared and go to properties you will see the sharing tab and the security tab. you need to make sure that you have either the username you log onto the laptop with in both, or "everyone"

i tend to set the file security to "everyone" and then set the access on the share to the username.
