Wireless Media Command not working

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Superb Combi L&K with the optional (at least here in Finland) "Wireless Media Command" function, however I cannot get it to work. I've connected to the car's WiFi network either normally or using WiFi Direct, but the Media Command app always fails to connect (tried both on iPad2 and Sony Z5 Compact). I can get the connection to work on the Sony (Android) with Smartgate and Skoda Performance applications, but not with the Media Command app.

Any ideas?

Is there any way to establish that my car actually has this feature?

Thanks in advance,

Lasse

I think you have to plug it in by USB? Im also struggling to figure out the wlan, it recognises my phones hotspot but my phone cant connect to the cars wifi. I havent inserted a sim card yet, is that a prerequisite?

Any ideas?

I have had it working in my car.

Ensure that the Columbus external control is enabled by selecting Menu -> Settings (the cogwheel button) -> Mobile Device Transfer -> Use apps to operate -> Allow.

Connect your device (tablet/phone) to the Columbus' Hotspot by selecting it as the WLAN/Wi-Fi connection on your device.

Open the Škoda Media Command app on your device.

The two control functions of the app are music and navigation.

Music is straightforward and allows control of all the options normally available on the Columbus unit (Radio, Station, Media, Source, etc).

Navigation requires an internet connection to access Google Earth.***

*** Neither my iPad nor my Columbus has a SIM, so for me this function only works with my iPhone.

USB is not used other than as a source for powering/charging the device (Media Command would be pretty pointless in the UK as the rear Data USB is not an option).

Thanks, Billyjim - but I've done all that, but still the app cannot connect. That's why I'm thinking that maybe the option hasn't really been added as per my order...

What comes to the USB, at least in my car it can be used to play music / stream iPad sounds (for example Netflix movie) to the sound system. I've had my daughter connect her iPhone to the rear USB and play music in Spotify using the car's speakers, same with iPad and Netflix. You just have to select USB1 or USB2 as input from the Columbus menu, if it does not change automatically.

DynamicT - it should work wirelessly as I have selected that option for my car (by default it works by wire, I guess).

Best regards,

Lasse

In that case I think you might be right, as it was all I needed to do to get it to work.

And in reference to USB, I meant it is not used for Media Command.

At least count yourself fortunate you have the rear USB 2. It's not available in the UK (because it comes with the 220v) and so far I have failed to find a Škoda dealer in Germany that can retrofit it.

Just for the record - I got it working now. It seems to require SIM card in the slot, probably because the Wireless Media Command uses internet for the map services. I think it should still work, if I share the internet connection on my GSM and connect the Columbus to it, but that does not seem to be the case...
