I have made a similar posting on this matter. On a cold engine, under load in 2nd or 3rd at about or just below 2,000rpm I suffer a bottom end knocking noise. The car has been back in over the two winters I have owned it regarding this. The first time they managed to replicate the issue, but no faults codes were logged. Out of interest the mechanic took out a stock vehicle owned by the garage and got the same result. His opinion and that of others and internet search results seem to confirm "diesel knock". I believe this is a pre-ignition similar to pinking on a petrol vehicle and a [annoying] characteristic of diesel engines and not a fault. When engine is warm, which can take 15 minutes and oil is up too temperature [90 degrees] I have not had this problem.

Either way I wouldn't be happy with any sort of 'knock' even if it does go away when hot.

sounds like the same problem. Does it not have a sensor to stop this like on the petrol engines advance and retard

Not that I am aware of. If you apply the power more slowly it does not happen. Likewise when warm.

I would take it into the dealer and let them have a look at it for your own peace of mind.

its ok when I apply power slowly. Just when overtaking and the like

Try changing down a gear.

Drive it like a petrol.
