Rear Wiper Motor VRS hatch

Featured Replies

So... I finally got wiper gremlins and found that the rear motor was leaking into the boot. To cut a long story short I had a new wiper motor fitted at an independent garage. (I wish I had done it myself as it turns out it's fairly easy)

Anyway when I got it home the rear wiper wasn't clearing the window. I contacted the garage and they weren't much help so I had a tinker...I found that the spindle wasn't sitting straight and when I removed the new motor I found this black washer??? I removed it and now the wiper seems to work fine.

As I didn't remove the old motor and as the washer looks important I thought I'd check to see if it is meant to be somewhere?? Can anyone assist??

It's a MK1 Octavia VRS hatch.

Thanks

It looks like one of the washers that's fitted into the fitting holes of the motor. There's one on each side I think? I would guess as they pulled the old motor off one got left on stuck in place and they've just fitted new motor on top without realising/looking. Therefore it's been a spacer under the new washer on new motor, hence it not sitting straight and putting an angle on the spindle? Washers like that can peel off if on for a while, get stuck to the bodywork.

Thanks for the reply...This washer is a really hard plastic and looks new. The fittings on the motor itself seem to be rubber so not sure if it's the same? Unless the plastic washer is from the older model of the motor?

That will teach me to skim read (face palm)...so you're thinking it's from the old motor and the washer isn't required?

I think so. I dare say if it's not on there now and motor is now fitted and working fine don't worry about it. It would have gone harder with age anyway I expect.
