Just upgraded my Sky + HD

Featured Replies

Finally got round to getting this upgrade sorted.

Bought a 200gb HD from PCWorld which seemed a reasonable price, £58.49 when reserved online -

Pretty simple job, only about 5 minutes, it takes longer to unplug the cables!!

Switch off instant rewind first, then switch off and unplug the box.

Remove the three security torx bits from the back - you will need a special tool or you can twist them off with some pliers like I did and I've replaced them with some spare hard drive screws I had.

Swap the drives over.

Put all back together and plug it in.

Switch it on and go to the following menu's -

Services, 4, 0, 1, Select, 8

That should do a full factory reset, switch it back on and enjoy your new found storage just in time for all the old favourite Xmas films.

Nice one mate Good job ain't it.

By the way for the benefit of any one wanting to give it a go, the Amstrad Sky+ box doesn't have Torx screws. Only Pace.

do you have to have Sky to use the HD part of a Sky+ receiver ??

Yes. The box won't do anything without both LNB inputs active and channels are being received on both. You can't record onto the Hard drive from an external source anyway.
