Quick qestion about brake warning

Featured Replies

Hello,

A friend of mine borrowed my car when I was away on business a while ago.

He then experienced that a stone/rock got jammed between the brake caliper and brake rotor.

He had to remove the brake caliper to remove it. After this I have had the check brake pads warning on the dash.

Have tried to reset with VCDS, but it just comes back.

Anyone have a guess of what the problem can be?
It can't be necessary to change the pads just because he took of the caliper?

Cheers

Did he accidentally disconnect the brake warning cable or not fully reconnect back the cable correctly.

^ That..... The caliper might have dropped when removed, yanking a cable or the connector out.

The brake pad warning is a normally closed circuit. If a wire has been pulled out, it will go open circuit and trip the brake pad warning.

It can be coded out via VCDS (17 - instruments) if it's not immediately repairable. . My 2013 FL never had it fitted so I just check them visually on occasions.
