Turbo stuck / sticky

Featured Replies

I think this is a common problem on these so hopefully you guys can confirm mine has this problem. I have not really needed to boot it but have found that acceleration is often lacking but at 250,000 miles not really surprising. I suspected I was getting no turbo input. Anyway today I was pulling away up a hill and needed to avoid following traffic so I gave it some throttle and suddenly turbo kicks in. Then disappears again.

If doing 60mph I can accelerate and the turbo clearly kicks in and with a bit of grey smoke the thing takes off as it should. In lower gears ie. third there is virtually no turbo at all and foot to the floor produces zero!

Should I strip turbo and clean it? Or start somewhere easier first?

Thanks for any pointers.

stuck EGR valve? try removing and cleaning that ....

Mr muscle time... cheapest option to try before rebuilding turbos.

What sort of boost pressure is it showing? (fitting a boost gauge will determine if it is limiting itself by opening the N75)

I am doing the Mr Muscle now. The actuator is not stiff at all and moves freely.

Here are the fault codes showing

17964  P1556-35-10

17911  P1503-35-10

01314   013

This suggests limp mode issue??

If it is not the turbo then looking at the EGR it has a bit of sticky goo but nothing major. I don't have a boost gauge.

Is the N75 the next obvious thing?I notice there is a pipe coming off the valve which is just hanging down not connected to anything? This is the valve right in front of passenger firewall to rear of the air pipe. Should there be any loose pipes?!

fixing that pipe will probably cure your issue ;) N75 needs to be connected correctly!

Yes but where should it go??

Here is the offending pipe from the valve to the left on the firewall. It also connects to the EGR valve.

Did a test run and the turbo did work in 3rd 4th and 5th as there is no doubt about that! Then turned round to return and the turbo was not working. So it is in there and able to work but overboost or something else is putting it into limp. Still looking for a place to connect that loose pipe.

OK I found the connection on the air filter box........ but not sure that will affect the turbo
