Any extra qualifications would be useful in an interview (anything is!) , but to be honest, if you are taken on as an officer, they will provide all the training needed....(I was trained by a police instructor for my response driving, and he was brilliant!) it is pretty difficult though, and some people are "average" drivers that will never make the grade, if you already have any kind of advanced driving qualification, you will probably be ok... If you have any doubts, I would suggest a 2 hour assessment , to grade the level of your skill and ability to learn. When I was qualifying for the ambulance service, no -one was dropped for failing any medical training, but several people were dropped for failing the driving! Any doubts etc, just PM for a chat.

If you mean you are applying to become 'vrsFuZZ' best of luck with your application . I would like to think that ignoring the fact it could be taken as a basic indicator as to suitability for Police driving a lot further down the line. It may have the added character benefit of someone mature and responsible to have made the effort at their own expense to increase their own driving competence, where the vast majority do not bother or feel the need.

I have been thinking of a career in police, being ex military and close protection.and the odd security job.I'd stand a good chance...but if i did i'd like to go into the traffic side of thing's.

And having a few driving qualification's would hopefully put me in that catergory.Instead of working from the bottom up.Not that i wouldn't mind.It will show them that's the way i'd like to head anyway's.

I have done driving course's before but none are recognised as qualification's in this country, more scenario's.

An update to this, next month I start work as a Dvsa driving examiner, and this means I have to hand in my instructors licence ( conflict of interest) so I won't be able to teach anyone anymore. Mods, you can leave the post up if you wish, there is some advice on here and I am happy to keep answering questions:)

some young people are finding the "black box" systems are cost effective.... it may also help him as a new driver, to stick to speed limits etc. worth a look? Pass plus is always a good idea anyway :)
