Skype

Does anyone use this? Is it any good?

Don't know much about it but was thinking of trying to find some cordless home phones that we could use with this service....

we use it a lot at work and is great for chatting to the mechanics when they are the other side of the world on a rally, has saved literally thousands of pounds on phone bills. The quality is great, and whilst there is a small delay it is a tiny trade off for the lack of cost!

The main handset needs to be plugged into a USB port on a PC to work

If you care at all about standards use Gizmo project ... it uses the standard VOIP protocol SIP rather than its own proprietory one. Also if you leave skype running you end can up being a supernode a-la P2P software which can result in other peoples skype traffic going through your network connection. (Something to watch out for in these days of capped services from ISP's)
