ABS Control module help.

Featured Replies

Not been on here for a while expect browsing.

Bought an Octavia VRS pd170

6 months later I have every light on, on the dash. After scanning with Vagcom I'm getting no communication from the ABS Control module.

Done a bit of reading on here and other pages and it's looking like I need a new one.

Skoda are telling me I need to be 100% sure before buying.

The part is nearly £800 so I want to be too.

Is there anything else I can check other than fuses and plugs.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Send it to ECU testing.

Definitely start with the obvious, check the connections for any obvious damage/corrosion and the fuses. Assuming that's all good, make sure power/ground are making it down the loom to the ABS connector. Next check is the CAN bus wiring from the ABS controller to the CAN gateway.

Probably worth posting a full autoscan too :)

You can also get a good used module for much less than £800...

Thanks for the replies. I didn't get an email. So this is me now just checking it.

I've had all the cables, plugs and fuses checked. Everything seems good.

Mag

Who are ECU Testing ?

Langers

I'm not sure how to go about checking the Canbus stuff, although VCDS was able to access the other modules when I done the full Scan.

I'm on my phone just now. But I'll fire up the PC and see if I can post the full Scan.

ECU tuning http://www.ecutesting.com/ are a company that offer repairs for ABS modules amongst other parts. They are well known for a G201 pressure sensor repair that plagued the MK60 ABS modules. Feel free to contact them but as you module isn't showing up at all it's almost certainly a different problem. Even if the ABS module is at fault they will need to diagnose it which is much harder when it won't communicate.

The CAN bus check will need a scope to view the signals on the CAN high and low at the ABS connector. It's to make sure there is clean CAN signal so if the ABS module were working it would be able to communicate with the rest of the car. I've included a couple of youtube clips which show some of the basics and what you'd expect to see.

If nothing changes once that's been checked and you're sure you have power, ground, CAN high and CAN low working, then I'd suggest a replacement ABS module. I'd probably grab an inexpensive used ABS module (£30-£80 I'd expect) from eBay or a breakers with the same part number as the current one and only connect it electrically to start with to see if that will communicate.

Thanks very much for that detailed reply. I'm away for the weekend. So I'll get onto it when I'm back.

I've been trying to source a used control module for the past 4 weeks and not had any luck at all. All the ones on Ebay have a different part no from mine on the module but the pumps are the same.

If you post the part number of the electronics module I might be able to tell you which modules superseded it to give you some more options.

  • Author

That would be great.

The number I have for the module is 1k0907375AC

have you checked to see if the module plug has power and ground

no power or ground will shut the module down

BTW If you send it to ecutesting and they cant fault it or cant comm with it they just charge a nominal fee.

From what I can see 1K0 907 375 AC has no modules that supersede it.

It does look closely related to the 1K0 907 379 AC module and most the pre-FL octavia's I've scanned seem to have this fitted so I'd be surprised if it wasn't compatible. Plus they can be pretty cheap on eBay.

  • Author

Cheers for the help and information. The 907 379 I had seen plenty of on eBay and wondered if they'd be the same but didn't want to gamble.

I've phoned ecu testing and they were also very helpfully. It's now getting posted to them tomorrow and fingers crossed they can fix it.

Thanks again to everyone that's commented.

A further Update here.

Ecu testing sent the unit back saying there was no faults.

Phoned a local Vag specialist who had another car on with the same issues and also had the module returned from Ecu testing.

They had an Auto Electrician in checking everything on both cars and have said it's definitely needing a new Control module.

Money waisted sending it to Ecu testing it seems.
