Show me your xenon light pattern

Featured Replies

I recently fitted some DIY projectors, light out put was bright and clear with a lovely cut off line. As seen here...

image.jpg

So I've fitted some genuine xenons and the line just doesn't seem as good, I'm changing bulbs but the light output seems like it's possible for LHD?

I've lined the lights up better now because the left light was sitting further down and it looks like this now.

I can't check another comparison the same as the above photo untill tomorrow but just taken this one now.

So I'm going to fit new bulbs and take the car to the mot station and get them to line up the headlights properly and see how they look then.

Just in the mean time I'd like to see what your lights look like, ideally on a flat wall so you can see the cut of lines and which direction they tilt.

You're correct, they are for LHD not RHD. Given the lack of output either the bulbs or reflectors have had it as well :(

I'd double check the left bulb is correctly seated as the hot spot looks low. Any sign that someone has opened these up and fitted non-standard projectors in there?

No signs of anything off really.

This is them fitted

They are genuine hella units, will be removing them to change the bulbs myself so will make sure the new bulbs are seated correctly.

Will also check part numbers on them to see if I can match them with someone else's.

I think the left bulb is in the wrong place as it was basically pointing at the floor before I adjusted it, so the light being lower on the left side isn't a worry at the minute

If the part number starts with 6Y1 it's a LHD variant, 6Y2 should be RHD. At least according to a partsbase for a MK1 Fabia :)

Curiosity can't wait, going to pull them out and check now.

Any idea where the part number would be?

Can't see one anywhere...

A few in the back beside the power plug but look more like casting numbers (Hella 246 366)

I think it's normally a sticker on the side closest to the grill. Otherwise, if you can grab a picture of it's E markings it's possible to decode that.

It should look something like this (broken) headlight:

This is all I can see.

They have been replaced so are no good using that I guess.

I've posted above all the numbers I can get.

That's a shame, will set about changing them to RHD if I can when I strip them down if that's the issue, will see what they look like with the new bulbs and take it to a test station then.

I've got another set I'm currently changing over to put in my other vrs, I've got headlights all over the place now!

I didn't pay much for them no, they were removed from a factory fitted UK car which is strange. They have been split before since the inside is painted black like the depo ones so wonder if someone has messed around with them.

This Is my OEM xenon's. Work shop was pitch black when this was taken.

Thanks for the replies, it seems mine might well be left hand drive then... I dont want to say for sure just yet since the bulbs are all over the place and very poor anyway, but from what i can tell they look like they are possibly for LHD.

Ive seen people split them before and swap the shutter over so will be opening them up to see what i can find.

The lenses are also quite cloudy so will be wet sanding and polishing them up at the same time.

Any other pictures, idealy on a flat surface so you can see the cut off lines are welcome

This is one of the videos i've seen, not sure if its the same on the Fabia but i'll soon find out!

You can see the cut off lines on mine as in they run the opposite way to yours although its not the best camera you can still see it.

Have you looked at the bulbs yet to see if they are seated correctly?

I havnt looked at the bulbs no, i tried to and figured it would be easier taking the light out to check them and since im changing the bulbs on monday anyway no point in the hassle.

I dont think the bulbs would affect the way the light goes though, from watching the videos its just the way the shutter angles so i might have to move a switch to change it or alter it manual if that isnt an option.

Well good luck in quite impressed at the clarity of the lights in your first pic.

Spent a few hours playing with the xenons today, light output is pretty perfect now, I could list what was wrong with them but I'd need about 5 pages.

Rectified all the faults, fitted new bulbs and sorted the light pattern out.

People parked in my usual spot so can't do a full comparison in the same place but tried my best :D

Selfish buggers. Don't they know it's Hutchy's light testing wall? :D

I should have put a ticket on their car tbh...

I just blocked the whole road off parking sideways to get some shine on the wall :D

A million times better than before and now also legal for RHD :) think I'll add more of a curv to the beam pattern when I next open them up though
