VRS 2.0 TFSI/TSI Question - Engine Change.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, bit of advise,

mate of mine has a 09 facelift TSI vrs, however the engine is beyond repair, and he's able to source a donar leon fr tfsi on a 06, same block as the prefacelift octi.. do you think its possible to fit this in place of the TSI block?

before any comments come about resale, engine change would be declared, however he has no immediate plans to sell the car, just needs it back on road for sensible money

Been advised the currently car is a CCZ code, and the one he's looking to put in is a BWA?

Bump

It will certainly be possible, in that it will fit and you will probably find the engine mounts are the same across preFL/FL and TFSI/TSI, but I don't know how easy - are the gearboxes compatible for starters? It will almost certainly need the TFSI ecu and I wouldn't be surprised to find that both the communications protocol and the physical looms are different, in which case it may need pre-FL looms, clocks, immobiliser and key transponder. That might then in turn cause compatibility issues with steering hardware and all of the convenience and entertainment controllers - so you could end up replacing far more than just the engine.

Unless I knew the swap was very simple I think I'd stick to a like-for-like replacement only. An apparently brand new CCZA (which is the VRS TSI) is £2.6K on ebay (obviously do your own research, may not be all it appears) or you could get a used one and ensure that you change chain & tensioner plus check over/replace oil pickup, camshaft adjuster valve strainer (and possibly even piston rings!) whilst it is out of the vehicle.

The TSI is chain driven & the TFSI from a 06 will be Cambelt driven so i dont think it would be possible.

thats the main issue, with the ecu knowing its chain driven, and then now belt driven..

the car has everything there, however being a leon, the clocks are useless, as with the loom..

but at the same time, in the past, I've seen certain cars, with engine conversions etc, 1.4 golfs with gti engines etc, this way would be a hell of a lot cheaper, and a more reliable engine too!

Hello my friend , this is very wrong swap to do.

If you change tsi engine the way is oneway !!!!!!

only tsi engine must install in the FL O2

the differences are dramatically a lot

i know that for sure because i was having 2.0 tfsi bwa engine in my Car and i made the swap in 1.8 tsi bzb at 2011 .

different ecu , wirring diagrams , radiators, water hoses , and many other that i am sure you do not want to hear

I have spoken to a big tuning company today who do a lot of conversions, who have advised me that the BWA engine and box will fit, as to what else is involved, but they have already quoted me 2 days labour, and it will be in and running?
