Re-sealing rear doors question

Featured Replies

Quick question.....when re-sealing the rear doors with plumbers gold do you remove the original foam that is between the metal door panel and the door or just apply it over this??

Thanks

You can leave it, but I remove it to make extra sure as don't wanna do the job again.

I dug it all out as well, they had previously been sealed with black gunk without removing the foam & still leaked.Removing the foam & plumbers gold all good so far.

I left it in place, but removed what I could.

I would also recommend 4 self tappers, 2 for each rear door to pull it in as they seem to warp or just be a poor fit.

Good shout :)

Don't forget to do the front doors too.

Remove the foam, use a curved pick tool, the sort in the cheap sets....very good, have done a MK6 Golf with the same problems..

MK7 Golf, solid door no window carrier, so no foam, no join, no leaks! Should be the same on the MK3 Octavia...

MK5 Golf was solid on the inside too. Had to take the naffin door skin off to do the window reg.

Do they fit the regulator and then bond the door skins together? Seems absolutely bonkers that.

The door skin just bolts onto the outside of the door.
