Hello again

Featured Replies

I originally posted this is the wrong forum so I thought I'd try again and put it here.

So I suppose its hello, again, I used to be here about 10 years ago, and no you're not seeing things if you've read the following before...

Its been many years since I had my Skoda, it was one of the first gen Superbs and despite having a few issues with it, the worse one being an engine issue which took 12 weeks at the dealers to fix, I still think it was a good car.

Everyone who went in it could not believe how good a car it was, now about 10 years or thereabouts later, hoping the badge snobbery has diminished even more, I'm thinking about another Skoda.

When I changed from my Skoda, it was for a Saab 9-5 Aero,  (my 3rd Saab) and my favourite car I've owned (I put 100k miles on that beauty), and for the last 7 years I've had a Honda CR-V diesel but I'm getting itchy for a new car.

Now the problem is I'm not liking many of the cars available nowadays, so my choices are slim.  I can't quite stretch to a BMW 5 series, not as keen on a 3, was contemplating a Lexus IS300h, liking the idea of a hybrid but since I'm planning to buy a caravan at some point, the Lexus is out (not any good for towing apparently)

But the one car I keep getting drawn back to is the Octavia vRS Estate with DSG, I'm leaning heavily to the petrol version, I know the diesel would be better for towing, but towing isn't the priority.

So I came back here on Briskoda to see if there are any issues and horror of horrors there's 2, TSi engine failures and problems with the DSG boxes.

So here's my question, just how common are these failures, I'm looking at a brand new car most likely, I can't quite work out if these are past issues or not.

From what I've read, it seems the newer DSG boxes may be sorted, don't know if I'm reading that right.

Am I being too worried about it or what?

And now I've moved to this forum, another spanner has been thrown into the works, I've now seen the latest Superb  :p

Now this is typical, cos when I got my Superb previously, I had gone to test drive an Octavia and it had a problem, so I tried the Superb.

And when I went to get my 2nd Saab, I had gone to get a 9-3 and ended up in a 9-5.

I suppose the same issues would apply to the Superb if there are any.

Cheers,

Vince

Welcome Vince! As I'm sure you're aware you'll always find the more negative stories on a forum like this, especially about DSG boxes. The vast majority have no issues at all - okay, the 7 speed dry clutches have thrown up a few problems alright in the past.

The new Superb is certainly worth looking at.
