Insuring with zero ncb

Featured Replies

Ok chaps, I'm hoping to be insuring a car in my own name for the first time in a few years over the coming weeks.

Problem is, most want a years ncb from a policy in my name before I qualify to insure a modified car (I may not buy a modified car but it is a possibility..  also I would ordinarily make cosmetic mods and air filter/exhaust) which I don't have.

I'm 49, can provide evidence of being sans accidents/claims for a few years as a named driver and have no convictions of any kind.

So Chris Knott and Greenlight are out. Not checked Flux yet but I hear so many bad things about them I'm not sure I want to go there.

Any other suggestions that don't include a starship premium?

Buy an unmodified car and wait a year before modifying it.  That way you can gain 1 year's NCB (provided that you don't make a claim!) and then modify the car.

Yeah.. that is an option.. I'd prefer to hit the ground running, so to speak, though.

Or have the choice of buying a decent car that is not 100% standard, as I suspect a good number of 10+ year old Octy vRS's aren't.

I have changed for my Modified Insurance to Lancaster Insurance.

Good price without using any NCB and also a nice Agreed Valuation after submitting my Pictures, Invoices etc and paying an additional (Option) £17.

Great Customer Service so far, easy receipt of all Paperwork online, Certificate, Schedule, Policy, Declaration, Agreed Value Application, Agreed Value Certificate etc.

Very very refreshing after the poor Customer Services and disinterest from some other big name Brokers.

Recent years seem to have meant that they know less not more about the business they are in.

Cars / vehicles you have had modified and insured for years now seem to cause them issues in finding cover for!

I used to use Adrian Flux or Premium Choice until they seem to use Call Handlers without a Clue when you start talking Modifications.

So they are binned now.

(I am sure Adrian Flux will be coming along saying get in touch, we can sort it out. well sort out your Call Handlers first.)

Those poor reviews surprises me.

Anyone might just try them their selves for a quote and see how they get on.

Hi,

I fully appreciate your comments if you feel you don't want to give us a try for insurance. I have passed your comments on to our customer service managers for future reference.

Regards,

Dan.

Didnt have any issues with flux, was with them for a few years with both bike & car, worth a try for sure.

I've been with Flux for the last 3 years including the Pulsar as a 2nd car plus using them years ago to insure on of my Golfs, never had a problem with them they seemed to be more interested than some the others when I spoke to them.

As far as I'm concerned as long as they are competitive price wise I doubt I'll leave them.

Thing is you usually only get to hear the horror stories which tends to be a very small percentage. But it's still a bit worrying - especially when it's car insurance.

I just think the insurance industry has a bad rep by default they are after all just an off shoot of the financial industry.

Unfortunately it almost seems like you have to pick the best from a bad bunch but that's just the way it is. A bit like politics I suppose.

I have had insurance for me and family members quite often with Adrian Flux, cars and bikes, there was no issues.,

i have even big upped them here and elsewhere.

But recently when after quotes on heavily modified vehicles, even one they insured for 2 years up to 5 years back,

just incompetence on the phone.

There are plenty fish in the sea, or at least ones that will take my business so i no longer mess about. when i want insurance and am paying, i want it arranged and get on with life.

Quite agree George I get really annoyed come renewed time because.

A) Your renewed quote from your current insurer is usually just insulting and you have to opt out or they will automatically take your money, that really gets my back up as no one has the right to help themselves to my money.

B) when you try to get a quote from a competitor they want to know your renewal price and "they'll see what they can do". No I don't want you to take the easy route I want you to value me as a customer and put some effort in, I want the best possible quote from the off not having to waste my time with back and forths.

Just a couple of my annoyances.

Have to say it irks me somewhat that they don't automatically quote the best price they can..

To get an idea we use the price comparison sites and use the cheapest on there as the price to beat.

Obviously modified is another jar of pickles entirely.
