2005 Fabia VRS tyre pressure question?

Featured Replies

Having had my front tyres replaced because the centre of tyre tread had worn down to 2/3mm whereas outside/inside tread depth was 5/ 6mm.

I know this points to the fact the tyres are/were over-inflated, but I did study the pressures and kept them at 34psi according to various forecourt air supplies.

For instance the new tyres fitted yesterday at the tyre fitters told me 33psi is the pressure and set my new tyres at that.

Today, I went to a Morrisons forecourt and tested new tyres and they registered at 38 psi ??

I tested the rear tyres before filling with air and they registered at 20psi ??

I am now so paranoid I now ask, what/ how do you members set your all round tyre pressures, and how you get a trustworthy/ reliable reading.

Can anyone please advise me where I can purchase a fairly accurate tyre pressure gauge, the type you press over the valve stem itself on the wheel ??

The COLD pressures should be set in line with those given in the user manual, you can also find them on the inside of your fuel cap cover. They'll be different depending on the tyre size and whether the car is fully loaded or not.

Your tyre garage probably set the pressures when cold but if you'd been driving round prior to checking the pressures, they'd have risen a little although I don't actuallt know how much the pressure generally goes up when warm.

As for a gauge, I've had the one in the link below for ages and haven't had any problems, the reading is identical to the digital gauge on my air compressor.

Hope this helps

Just took a photo of fuel flap tyre pressure data ?????

All very puzzling and no idea too even start a conversion...LOL

Have set tyre pressures all at 33psi as garage suggested according to new Draper pressure gauge..

For normal loading 2.3 bar front, 2.2 bar rear.

I used to run 36 psi front and 33 back. Car seems to drive a bit nicer.

Just Googled your figures that's just over 33+psi front and just over 31+psi rear..which is close to tyre fitters statement.

Should have Googled figures in my photo..LOL

You are not going to believe how dense I am (openly admitted) but my gauge has dual figures both in psi and bar..DAH!!!!

I shall watch for even/uneven wear in tread very closely for the next few months.
