2010 vrs ll tdi cr positioning lamp query

Featured Replies

Hi all, just had my 2010 mkll vrs tdi cr mot fail on top positioning lamps failure. Completely baffled what bulbs I need and how to get them out?. I have managed to get headlamp units out, taken off main headlight bulb rubber cover and see the small bulb down below the halogen headlight bulb. Seems to be a long stalk coming off it towards the rubber cover that I can just get my fingers to and appears to twist. Worried that if I pull it will break and bulb seems to have a series of brown wires on it. Any ideas please?. Unable to find anything on the Web, Google or youtube, just how to replace main headlight bulb. Many thanks. Kwik fit told me they'd refer it to Skoda as looked like whole front grill or wheel arch would have to come off!!

IIRC the bulbs don't function on a vRS as the LED day running lights function as position lamps. I'm pretty sure mine don't illuminate. I think some folk have got them working but they shouldn't be an MoT fail.

Yes the bulbs are not used on the vrs. Instead they are put in to fill the hole. The drls should dim when set to side.

Wow! Thanks Sarge, that's very interesting.Only had the vrs for a year and to be honest didn't even realise there was a bulb tucked up there anyway. Pretty certain they've never been lit up since I had it.Guess I'd have to check on this with a skoda main agent on this then?

Just an update.Spent all weekend looking on forums etc reaffirming what you chaps have said to prove to kwik fit the error of their ways.Dead right! Loads of info about clarifying on the vrs the drl's are in fact the only positioning lamps, with them dimming slightly when headlights turned on. No kwik fit mot testers about until tomorrow so they have asked me to go back then to check it out. Thanks for the info Sarge and Vegasphil.

Kwikfit fail. This was your only mistake in going there. If they don't correct their error take it elsewhere and never mention their name again.

Back to kwik fit this morning! After being told the mot testers had not turned up on sick grounds it was time to get grumpy!. Stayed on site as they attempted to draft in another tester from somewhere else. Hey presto the original chap turned up. I am now the proud owner of a nice new mot certificate!!!

Just never go back to Kwikfit again. At least you have the MOT after much messing about.

I wondered how this turned out. Glad there was a sort of happy ending! Will your car show as having failed an MOT on the history checker now due to their tester?

I had no issues with my local main Skoda dealer with their £35 MOT (maybe keep in mind for next year...)
