Factory Xenons

Featured Replies

I've got a few questions about factory fitted Xenons as I'm sure mine need adjusting.

1. I've recently fitted new shocks and lowering springs so I've read that I need to get them adjusted now is that correct?

2. Should factory Xenons auto level when you turn the ignition on? I've also read there is a sensor or something on the passenger side rear axle that controls this is that correct and if so where about is it?

Anymore info would be great thanks!

PM Lofty on here,he did his not long ago after lowering.

The sensor on the rear beam can't take into account the whole car has been lowered,so it thinks the rear of car is heavily loaded so it points the lights down at the road :)

You'll need full VCDS and ideally an MOT beam testing machine to do it right.

There's a guide on the net how to do it but in essence you use VCDS to centre the headlights adjustment motors in the middle of their travel, then manually adjust the headlights using the allen key adjusters in line with the beam tester, then save the motor setting using VCDS. That way it can cater for the extra load in the boot and angle the headlights down and vice versa when unloaded.

Mine don't Auto Level the way that some more modern factory xenons do, I don't think they're that advanced, unless you parked it with a boot full and started it up empty?

The level sensor is mounted above the rear beam axle, passenger side, close to where the exhaust passes over the axle It has a small heat shield on it from memory

Ok thanks Lofty thats a great help so would you say you are happy with your factory xenons then?

I was always happy with mine on my Combi

Depends how you quantify happy? Are they better than the original halogen headlamps? Then yes I suppose they are a marginal improvement. Are they as good as a more modern cars LED/Xenon type lamps then no, but that's progress for you.

They certainly look better from outside the car and it's a nice option to have. Mine always look like they could do with having the beam pattern 50yards further up the road even though they are adjusted 100%, however I'm used to driving a new car with LED lights and pardon the pun but it's night and day difference LOL
