Tip: restoring faded plastic

Featured Replies

Wish I'd taken a before and after photo but wasn't sure if it would work. I bought a used seat belt buckle as my front passenger one rattles when nobody is sat there and clipped in. It arrived and I was disappointed to see a pretty badly faded red button. Rubbed on some vaseline, left for a minute, wiped off and looks good. Time will tell if it will fade again but apparently the oils in the vaseline actually restore the plastic. Sorry if you know this already, but just thought I'd share in case there's some out there that don't know.

Get some "Solution Finish" - It's absolutely awesome! :D

Sounds good but the vaseline was in the drawer, cost me nothing and only had to walk to the kitchen to get it ;)

kitchen / bedside drawer - delete as approproate  :P

Hahaha ^^ that comment made me chuckle!

As for the 'home remedy' - Certainly one I've not heard of before. Peanut butter gets mentioned a lot aswell as heat gun too!

I had heard of peanut butter but there's only room for crunchy in our cupboard, smooth is for losers. I figured vaseline would be a bit cleaner.

 aswell as heat gun too!

Yes - I used it on what is now my van - but was my mate's at the time.  Lasted a fair while, but needed solution finish to sort properly

Yeah I've seen it lasts a while but fades after a bit.

The solution finish you mention has some great reviews. One I've never tried but looking too add to my collection at some point!
