posable problem with dmf

Featured Replies

hi there, i have (2005 Octavia mk2 2.0 6 speed dsg auto with 144k) everything about the car is good engine sounds sweet no smoke pulls like a train gears change smoothly returns great mpg but i noted recently a bit of a jingling sound from under the bonnet somewhere, i can only notes   it when i stop the car and sit there with the car ticking over after about 30 seconds to a min i can hear this jingling/rattling coming from under the bonnet if i rev the car the engine sounds sweet, but when the car has settled back down to a tick over same again 30 seconds to a min later the nose comes back.i took it to my local indi garage who i have used for plenty of jobs on my other cars with no complaints and he has suggested it sounds like my dmf is on its way out (deep joy this is going to hurt) but he ant no vag specialist and was wondering if this is what usually happens when the dmf starts to fail ?

any help or advice would be most welcome cheers kev.

I guess it's possible.

Without seeing the car though it's tricky, could be plenty of things.

i know cheers mate, its near on impossible to diagnose a problem without seeing the car i was hoping not to have to go down the diagnostic route more money, if it is the dmf i am looking at £300 for the dmf and another £200 for it fitted.

by the way if it is the dmf where is the best place to get one from?

so far there seams to be two makes that keep coming up luk and sachs are these any good?

and the price seams to be from £280 to £320 is that the kind of price i am going to have to pay or do you lads know where a better deal can be had?

cheers kev.

To be honest I've not had to look for a DSG DMF from anyone other than Skoda before so not sure of the best place to look for non genuine.

anyone!

You have to give us a chance bud. We are not at your beck and call. Some have jobs to go to and stuff like that. You will get more suggestions.

Anyway, when I was looking to purchase my estate a few years ago, I heard a rattle whilst it was idling and we were looking around the vehicle.

The salesman called a mechanic from next door, and he said straight away that it was the DMF.

Sale agreed, upon a new DMF being fitted at a Skoda independent garage, and this sorted the problem.

It will not go (knacker) straight away so you have a bit of time to receive some more suggestions off of here, if you give the guys a chance. .

Good luck.

I was recently worried that my DMF was on it's way out, so did a bit of asking on here and a bit of research.

Apparently there is an inspection hole on the DSG box to have a look at the flywheel. Not sure exactly where, but I'm sure if you talk to a specialist they may be able to check it out for you.

As far as I am aware, the DSG flywheels are manufactured by Luk?

You can buy from Euro Car Parts and use their discount codes to bring the cost of the Flywheel down. The other day, I managed to bring the cost down to £240 including the flywheel bolts.

I think £200 for labour is a good price, when I was looking it was about £250.

Just got a quote from luk or what ever it is, the guy says its a genuine clucth kit for the vag models. Please don't hold me to that though, my quote was £499.93 for clucth, dmf and new set of bolts

I thought usually you just need to change the flywheel on the DSG.

cheers kev.

and Tilt,my apologies for being a bit impatient i was also sold that it can lock up and throw something or other threw my gear box,so as you can imagine i flapped a little.

just come home and i thought i would see how long it took when i pulled up for the jangling sound to start and it took 3mins at tick over  before it started, dose that sound like dmf or something els?

cheers kev.

Is it more noticeable from inside the car or outside?

Has it already had a new DMF fitted, in it's life?????

Mine was more noticeable from just behind the NSF wheel.

If answers are - 'outside', 'no' and 'mine is too', then DMF is very likely IMO, but no-one can give you a definitely correct answer, certainly without hearing it themselves.

Get a second, and third if you like, opinion from a trusted mechanic, and take it from there.

If you do not know a trusted mechanic then ask family / friends to recommend someone.

There is only one DMF available for the DSG and it's made by LUK.

If you put your reg into Euro Car Parts website it will show it up. It's £309.99 and then you need the bolt kit @ £6.59.

Then use discount code "vbcode159" to bring the total price down to £264.34.

phil do you mean order on line and use the discount code? sorry but i have never done this before didn't even know you could, you live and learn that's way i use this forum great help and advice just need to be patient lol.

cheers kev.

just been on there site and it gives me the option of three am i right in thinking the one for the wet clutch is the one for my car code number ( 336445050) at £319.99 ? amd the bolts (640440500)?

cheers kev.

Yes that's the right one. The other two are for manual gearbox.

And yes in the checkout you put the discount code in then you can either have it delivered or click and collect from the shop and you get the online price.

Euro car parts charge a lot more in store than doing click and collect or delivery.
