I am looking into upgrading the recirculation valve on my vRS.

Other than Forge, are there any other brands worth considering or things to avoid?

The car's had a Stage 1 remap.

(Or, is it even worth doing at all?)

Standard 910N DV is absolutely fine for stage 1 & only £25.

There is no performance gain from aftermarket DV's unless you are running big boost.

Buy a supersize tip instead

What is a supersize tip?

And is replacing the DV a diy job (I am not a mechanic)?

Where can I get hold of a new oem DV?

... or even an original VAG DV?

Easy job to do, but you'll need to replace the crimp clips with jubillee's. Small cable tie works best to secure the small pipe into the top of the DV.

Do you mean 710P? From what I can tell, that supersedes the 710N.

I know that Forge's get some bad press on here - but here's my experience for what it's worth?

 

Back in 2010 when I bought my '51 plate VRS, with 70k miles, the first thing I did was book it into JKS in Portsmouth for a Revo remap (they were doing a sale at £199) and whilst I was there, I also bought and fitted a Pipercross foam panel filter, and a Forge re-circ valve. As I was buying a few things at the same time, I got a good deal on the Forge....I think it set me back 60 quid on the day.

 

My rationale when fitting those two items was mainly for service longevity (ok, ok....the Forge is SHINY lol!) - I hoped that they would last a long time with little or no maintenance, and give me trouble-free performance.

 

And they have done exactly that. Six years down the line, having taken my car from 70k miles to 170k miles, all I've done is take the filter out twice, washed and dried it and re-fitted it. And the Forge? Well.....it's still sitting in the place where I fitted it six years ago, still getting on with the job of being a valve really......and that is it. It's been totally trouble-free, has never required looking at, is still functioning as well as the day I bought it. And that's basically totally fulfilled my buying criteria.

 

So.....I'm a happy Forge customer!

Might be worth getting the service kit with the new design piston it, bound to be some wear on your old one and you may not any difference in that length of time.

 

To the OP nowt wrong with a brand spanking new OEM one.

Forge is only good for shinies - the standard one is as good if not better unless stage 2+
