how long does it take for a VRS to be built in the factory?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how long it takes to build a VRS in the factory. My dealer has said the process takes 6 days, but that seems a long time!

I was lucky enough to have a look around the Nissan plant in Sunderland, and the rate at which the cars are put together is phenomenal! I would maybe say 2 days from start to finish, including quality checks / inspection etc?!

It was 2 days for mine

Depends where you start the process. From the steel roll coming in, or after the panels being stamped out.

Have a look a the You Tube Octavia production video.

Just-in-time manufacturing. The car is assembled from parts that are delivered to the line as and when they are needed.

I had a tour around the Triumph motorcycle factory about ten years ago. They start with the pistons, con rods and crank being assembled into the engine block, then the engine is built up around that, then its bolted into a frame, then ... you get the picture. Bike rolls off the line maybe an hour or so later and has engine started for the first time. They actually mix up the production run so different bikes are being made all the time and the people don't get bored and make mistakes.

10 mins or according to the BBC, BMW’s MINI plant in Oxford, a car is built every 67 seconds.

I was at the factory in Mlade Boleslav in 2008. The priduction line Fabia made about 900 cars in 24 hours. It was in the financial crisis. So they did not sell every car. Some of the cars were immediately disassambled. Sold for parts. They wanted to keep the trained workers. Not lay off anyone.

So I guess they produce in the same rate as all other car makers. But from sheet metal to finished car it takes a couple of days
