1.6 105 vs 2.0 140 TDi

Featured Replies

After a time very happy with a v1 Octavia in 2005, I'm now living in Geneva (which means tax ramps up for higher HP, but also I'll probably fill it up often in France where diesel is significantly cheaper than petrol - 82p vs 101p). Looking to buy a v2 4wd, meaning the estate.

There are far more 1.6s diesels available out here - and in my price range, I'd be looking at about 130,000-180,000 km for a 2010-2012 1.6, but 180,000-200,000 km for a 2.0 from the same era. (I would struggle to find many petrols at all, but probably would be a ~180,000 km 1.8 TSi for a similar price.)

I'm going to use it mainly for long weekend runs and European trips - so probably 10-15,000 miles a year, but mostly from long round trips (including trips to the mountains for hiking and snow - hence 4wd).

So at this mileage, is one engine significantly better (/ more reliable) than the other? Will the 1.6 be hopeless on the Autobahn and Autoroute? I don't mind churning the gears to get up to speed.

Have looked through a few threads where the 1.6 gets love from some and dismissed by others... :)

Also advice in terms of what to look for (other than FSH etc!) welcome. Or even pointers to other threads! Thanks.
