Two key fobs, one has become ultra short range despite new Duracell 2032s!

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced just ONE of the pair of key fobs suddenly becoming ultra short range (basically up against the windscreen).

I've replaced the batteries in both with new Duracell 2032s Litiium 3V and one is still long range (30-40m) and the other up aginst the windscreen (<=2cm!)

I'm confused as I havent droped the keys in water/beer/the toilet nore dropped them,

Thanks if you can help

Michael

Have you opened the faulty key and seen what it's like inside?

Just an idea but does the circuitry use the key blade as an aerial?  If so a disconnection could reduce the range by the factor you're describing...

Might also be worth checking the battery connection inside the fob - ie that the springy bit which keeps the thing in place and makes electrical contact is providing enough (physical) resistance and allowing the correct flow of current.

The missus' Peugeot keyfob was a bit down on range after a battery change - it used to work miles away - and a bit of 're-tensioning' seemed to sort it.

Might not be the answer where yours is concerned but could be worth a try.

Good luck anyway, hope you get it sorted.
