Electric window motor and switch- where to buy

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Apologies if this is a newbie question but I've had problems with my 2009's front electric windows for months now. They have been intermittently working and today they got stuck halfway down so had to take it to the garage.

They told me I need a new drivers door motor and a switch as mine has badly been corroded by water damage. Could this be a dodgy rubber seal in the door?

Anyway they quoted me £280, is this a standard charge for this kind of work? Is it possible to find the part cheaper somewhere else and get another mechanic to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

They have changed the design of the window motor because of the corrosion issue. Also worth checking the door wiring loom as they are very common to snap wires in the rubber boot going to the A post.

Motors will more than likely be genuine from Skoda or second hand from a breaker. However there have been lots of software changes over the years for various issues. Buying a used motor might mean picking one up with flakey software.

Thanks Tech1e, so are you saying I can't get a motor to fit my car? He also said one motor on the drivers side controls both front windows, is that correct? I don't need two motors?

Sorry I've just reread your post and understood it properly! So I'm better off buying brand new basically?

Sorry for all the questions, can anyone tell me exactly what the part is called that I should be buying?

It is a window motor. It incorporates the door control unit. And yes although both doors have one the drivers side is the master.
