Stone chips

Featured Replies

My Rosso Brunello paint seems to attract stone chips very easily. I drive with a good distance between me and any vehicle in front. I know oncoming vehicles can throw up detritus but I've picked up two chips this week alone on the bonnet.

Is anyone else finding their paint easily chipped? Not sure if it's my colour or just modern paint work but I'm pretty miffed.

I noticed a little teensy stonechip on the front/top of my bonnet when drying it down after washing the other day. Luckily it's only chipped the clearcoat not the paint but still... The car's only a week and a half old. :/ My last Superb (a 2010 S2) went 60,000 miles with none to be seen. 'Modern' emissions friendly paints and so on, I suppose? Skoda paint is generally considered moderate hardness but there's not a great deal you can do about stone chips unless you want to put a really tough ceramic coat on the car (which still might not help) or a really ugly 'car bra'. :D

One of mine is down to the primer and one to the base coat. I've got some brilliant touch up and clear but I can't help feeling so annoyed.

Got the first stonechip on the way home from the dealer... :(

My Rosso picked up about 4 or 5 small chips from a trip to Germany and back. That is even with having gtechniq crystal serum protective coating applied. However, the coating doesn't claim to prevent chips, the only way it seems is with some sort of ugly protective film.

I have a Skoda Rosso touch up stick which I've carefully used on the little chips but it doesn't match the colour very well. You can see them all when you look closely after the car has been washed. I'd have the touch up on there though rather than the elements getting in under the paint.

Mines got loads, 20+ I'd say. I live in a rural area where there lots of rubbish on the road and do plenty of motorway miles. Even so after only 6k it already has more than any other car I've owned. Luckily it's a lease car so I don't really mind.

At 6300 miles my Business Grey SE Business has a fair few stone chips. I'm particularly surprised how badly the curved sides of the bonnet have chipped, there are a few corkers on either side. Also, the Stratos alloys are horrendous for picking up stone chips, presumably due to the angled nature of the spokes, there are a more chips than I'd care to try to count and a couple of really bad ones that have actually taken a little chunk out. It spoils what are otherwise nice wheels that I keep well away from kerbs!
