Rubbed a car.

Featured Replies

Long story short.

Rubbed a car when parallel parking.

It was dark. Left my details on windscreen.

My car had paint transfer which t cutted off.

I've not seen his car in light.

Claims some paint removal around arch and such.

Phoned me 2 days after incident asking what I wanted to do about it. Explained mines t cutted off. I will pop up and look at his.

Doesn't sound like he wants to go through insurance. It doesn't bother me. He seems to want money for I imagine won't go to repairing car.

His car is a knackered 04 plate Citroen C4.

What would you do?

Bearing in mind going through insurance will likely to put your insurance up for the next few years, could tell him to get some estimates from body shops and say you will foot the bill when the work has been carried out

My insurance will go up anyway. The car I'm using is a courtesy car as somebody crashed into mine. (Nightmare narrow street)

I'm looking at the age of his vehicle and what I saw this morning from afar it's not in good nick anyway.

He's phoned me off his work phone, he works at a local pub so I'm going to have a drive up for a sneaky look before he comes home.

I don't think he'll go for any repairs but for just a payout cash in pocket. He's had a word with people he works with etc had two days to think about it and wants to try his chances.

That's my theory anyway. Most I'll give is a £100 as a sorry otherwise he can go through insurance. The car is worth about £500 as an estimate.

Maybe offer him £50 first then, If you feel you owe him something.

That way you can gauge his reaction and offer a little more if necessary, if you would genuinely be happy up to £100.

£100 is a very good offer Imo, if the car is as you describe and valued correctly.

If he accepts payment then make sure you get a waiver in writing, especially if he has your insurance / registration details, just to be sure it does not bite you in the backside.

He doesn't have any of my details but an address and phone number. I went to look at his car at his works car park without him knowing. Got some pics incase he try's a fast one. The driver side rear mudflap is missing. I rubbed that and it made an awful noise against my car.

Didn't see any obvious damage or dents to paint.

He's yet to contact me again. I'll go with £50 first if he comes back.

Just be straight with him and say "Do you want to mess about with the insurance, or shall I just buy you a good drink?"

End of the day, he works in a pub, so his insurance is going to be bloody high as it is without putting any sort of claim on.
