Heater Matrix Pipes changed! Still leaking Seals?!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

To a point where im considering lighting a match to the car!

So coolant kept going at a alarming rate (Max to min in about 1mile!!)

Whipped the engine cover off and seen the dreaded heater matrix pipes were snapped and bracket broke

So got to TPS put on new pipes, bracket and 2 lovely o seals!

Started it ran it 45mins thought jobs a good un' oh no no no, took it for a drive and same thing! Still leaking around the bolts

Right so in the rain tonight managed to get the pipes off and re fit the seals, a few trys later its still weeping from there, albeit a bit less!

Now im wondering if theres a way of putting the seals on?

Ive got some thicker seals which i might try tomorrow, now someone said possible Heater Mateix but cant see no evidence, still get hot air, no leak, no smell and from the bulkhead looks clean and cant feel no corrosion

Any ideas?

Maybe the heater matrix is clogged and the coolant pressures when the thermostat in closed, causing leaks? I'd say to take off the thermostat and see if it gots any better.

Still no change :S maybe the actual heater matrix?

Anyone know how to remove one?

You need to take apart the dashboard.

It is behind the central console.

Before taking the dashboard apart, why not disconnect both the rubber heater pipes and connect them together with a bit of 15MM copper tube and jublilee clips thus by-passing the suspected heater matrix, start up and test. This way you can ascertain whether it's the matrix is leaking or not.

Right after spending a constant 3 hours on it this afternoon, must have fitted and refitted the coolant pipes about 20times! On the last time before i would have gave up! Managed to get the pipes in, no leak!! Bled the system, filled the reservoir a few times, took for a 250 mile erm spirited drive and still no leaks and coolant pipes are bone dry! So im going home a happy chappie! :)

^ Well done :)
