New car on the way...dealer wants to sell us lifeshine...

Featured Replies

Subject to a test drive tomorrow we're about to get SWMBO a new or pre registered car. She quite fancies a white BMW 2 series coupe with red leather heated seats. I'm ok with fending the dealer off on the exterior as I did my vRS  with the help of Chis 3 years ago and will wash, detox, clay mit, light polish and seal it with AB hellshine abyss but what about the interior?

For the fabric i was thinking of gtechniqI1 smart fabric but what about the leather. I've used AG leather cleaner and balm on the vRS but I'm guessing there's better  stuff out there to seal it if possible as she's a mucky cow.

Any advice on any of the above greatly received as ever....

Hi Ade,

The BMW sounds lovely. My missus had her heart set on one not so long back. The red leather sounds great too!

As for products, if your using I1 Smart Fabric, I'd stick to the Gtechniq range and go with L1 Leather Guard.

Cheers.

Cheers Karl. Test dive done in the car she was interested in (Pre-registered 65 plate sport with 47 miles on the clock). It already had 2 scratches on the interior door trim and glove box- looks like some bint had been in it with some big rings on her fingers  .

The red leather was already dirty on the drivers seat bolster so we've gone for a spanker that they can get that's in stock at another dealer that was better equipped and has black leather which will be more serviceable but not that much more money (For a BM!) SWMBO is happy.....and my DA6 pro arrives Monday after my G220v packed up after only being used a few times so I'll be ready...

Can't you persuade her to buy a sensible car with (1) front wheel drive and (2) a boot big enough for more than a handbag?

1) Sensible is over rated 2) I thought a woman's handbag contains everything you would ever need and more so if she can fit her handbag in there she'll be fine lol.

Oh avoid the lifeshine they want to sell you it because it a good mark up for themselves and usually poorly applied, spend the money on your own kit and do the job yourself would be my 2 cents worth.

Hmmmmmm. right.... I will explain.... You can tell my dear wife is from Cornwall by her latent accent, BUT that's just about all you can tell her!

She's wanted a BM ever since I met her and TBH I suggested the 2 series coupe as I think the 1 series is an ugly car and the 3 series too big for her (and too expensive for my pocket) Still the wrong side of 25k though

Well...I see trouble ahead as it's got keyless start.... I'll await the first phone call....I can't find my keys so can't lock the car.....

Lifeshine.... Well we had that done on the Seat 8 years ago and it was the worst decision I've made when buying a new car. As you say it's hit and miss - ours was poorly applied-the **** that did it put swirls in the paintwork so they had to polish it and do it again so I vowed never again. We all know on here it takes a good full day to properly detail a new car, but they apply lifeshine in no time flat so the poor results are not surprising, but most Joe Public wouldn't notice. To be fair to the salesman this afternoon after he'd come back from inspecting our part exchange (they gave us almost the same as youknowwhobuyscars who hadn't looked at it) he said I'm not going to press you on lifeshine but I have to ask knowing already what you'll say as I'd detailed the inside and it looked like a new car. Pity the G220v had packed up otherwise the exterior would have looked much better too but ho hum. I'm fairly well stocked up but will have a look to see what I 'need' to do her car...some nice new buffing cloths will be a good start to go with her Gtechniq stuff  :notme:

Hi. Personally I'd stay away from dealer applied (vastly overpriced) sealants.

You've got the exterior covered by the sounds of it.

Have a look at Gtechniq i2ab, it's an all surface antibacterial cleaner. For the fabric there is I1 and I1ab (again 'ab' denotes antibacterial guard) and for the leather there is L1 and L1ab. For a dash dressing C6 and C6ab, which will give a factory new lustre and give the plastics UV protection.

If your a DW member and you register your name and DW screen name with Gtechniq you will get 7.5% discount.
