Plastic Scuttle Panel

Featured Replies

Is there anything else holding the scuttle panel on just where it meets the windscreen? I've got the wiper arms off and the three plastic fir tree plugs but it seems really solidly fixed by something where it meets the base of the windscreen.

Never mind, I got it off. You have to pull it sharply upwards at the base of the screen and it starts to come away.

Got myself a wiper arm puller for the job too.

Well done Lee, how's it looking in there? Just in there for a drain clean, or some other reason?

Wiper puller is well worth having, think I have the same model.

The panel that the ECU sits against comes off fairly easily if you need more access. In theory it seals along its lower edge to close off the leak path to the engine bay; on my Polo the residual seal material was a bit reminiscent of the door carrier stuff. I think I stuck on something a little more effective to replace it.

Thanks, I just wanted to take it off for an inspection of the drain holes. It seems pretty clean in there though. I think I'll leave the firewall panel thingy alone for now. It was nice and sunny when I started but it started to pour down so I will have to try and refit the panel tomorrow if the weather is OK.

It's interesting that there is a little plastic cam at either side of the base of the windscreen. They must use them to adjust the screen alignment during fitting at the factory.

Yup, that's exactly what it's for :)
