Supagard

Featured Replies

So I guess Supagard is another one of these magic snake oil rip the cash off the unsuspecting car buyer products - like the Autoglym treatments.  However, someone I know has got a new car and obviously fell for the salesman's spiel.  They had the car done, but apparently have nowhere to hand wash their new car on a regular basis and use car washes instead.  Tonight they handed me the add on kit that comes with such treatments as they won't use it and suggested I might find use for it on my new Octavia.  Said kit contains: Alloy wheel cleaner, tyre and trim dressing, alloy wheel protector, scuff remover kit, bird lime neutraliser, and acid rain neutralising shampoo.  No Polish :-(   Along with requisite cloths etc.

So the question is has anyone heard of Supagard and are their products any good and worth trying if I have got them FOC?

The main problem with these 'wonder solutions' is that most are not applied correctly, i.e. the car isn't prepared properly beforehand and they are often applied by someone who has little time to do it and is not as knowledgeable as a professional detailer.

If the alloy wheel cleaner is either acid or alcaline based I'd throw it in the bin. By all means try the rest of the stuff though to see what it's like.

littleade - good point about the fact the wheel cleaner might be acid or alkali based.  That was worth checking - the good thing about modern SDS sheets is that hazardous ingredients have to be declared.  I suspect this is the applicable document http://www.supagard.co.uk/sites/default/files/dowloads/QAFS008%20-%20Alloy%20Wheel%20Cleaner.pdf Those ingredients indicate that the formula is mainly surfactants with just a very minor percentage of alkali - I have sufficient chemistry under my belt to know that this will probably be OK for an aluminium based wheel.
