Well I have just purchased a new radio and I helped my grandson fit the weekend. I must say I am well pleased with it especially for the price. A good radio, CD and DVD, USB ports you can attach memory sticks, Bluetooth you can pair your mobile with, games,calender, calculator, It could even get TV but I don't think I have a canbus? whatever that is. and also it comes with a satnav sd, its pretty basic but adequate, but it did'nt cost anything and it works and it suits my purpose so all well and good. I think you can even record to a CD from a memory stick, but I have'nt looked into that yet. In any case I am not bothered about that. It fits my 07 Octavia perfectly.

It looks good, is that the facia fitted to the car originally or did you have to buy one or is if included with the head unit

Its the original facia, easy to unclip, actually it was all easier than I thought it would be, we only had one slight problem which my grandson overcame. Like I said, I am very pleased with it. Forgot to add, it's all touch screen as well. Attached is a pic of my old one.

The car will have CANBus. CANBus is how the different controllers in the car talk to each other (Controller Area Network).

My concern on upgrading to something like this is that it becomes more of a target for thieves...don't you think?

You're original head unit is the same as mine ... does the new one pick up your reversing sensors or do just have to rely on the audible tone .....

Here is a pic of what comes up, though i always have and still do rely on the beeps and my own judgement. I am thinking of getting a reversing camera and I believe it can be connected to the radio somehow..
