1.9 PD BXE

 

My understanding is that the injector timing is dependant on rotational position of camshaft. 

 

Therefore while both  the cam and injector timing relative to the crankshaft  position could be disturbed while changing a cam belt, the injector timing relative to cam timing could not.

 

Have I got this right?

In the PD engines, the injectors are mechanical directly driven by the cam shaft - so you're right.  Good pictures of a unit injector here:

the injectors are mechanically operated by the cam but this does not mean the fuel timing is as would be the case with say,   valve opening      ---    it's controlled electrically
