Hi there.  Greetings for sunny Cyprus.

 

I noticed this forum at the time that I was trying to make my mind about which car to buy.  Initially was looking for a small-ish Station Wagon, for the size of the boot (i.e. Kia Ceed, Ford Focus, Hyundai i30 and Toyota Auris, all the wagons version).

 

Then, after I was dissapointed with most of them, I had a look at the Skoda Octavia. But not the wagon, coz the hatchback was enough for my needs.  It was then that I frequently found information on briskoda forums.

 

I (obviously) bought in the end the Octavia (back in January).  Was told it will arrive in Cyprus in 4 months time, so that should be around May (hopefully, coz I can imagine the sellers usually give promise they can barely keep).

 

And so, with the time approaching, I signed up in this forum.

 

The Octavia I bought is a dark grey (forgot the actual name) 1.4 TSI, DSG,  I put quite a few extras on it (at the last day of ordering, I went for the electric seats for example).  Things that my budget would not allow had I gone for the Auris, or waited for the Astra SW.  So I am pretty happy with my choice.

 

Only problem is the car that I tested drive was on 16in alloys, while the car that I bought comes with 17in.... The dealer over here said I could not downgrade to 16's....... and I am scared that the drive will be erm.. a bit annoying in town (firm, bumpy and noisy).  Only time will tell.

 

So, here I am then.

I doubt you'll find 17's that horrible.  But if they are, you can always swap them a bit later on.  I'm on 18's and find the ride perfectly acceptable.

V6TDI, do you have rear torsion beam or Octavia RS?

I have a vRS, which I guess makes a bit of difference.

Welcome to the forum. I think you should be fine on 17s. What profile (sidewall) are they - 45?

Yes, if I remember correctly. They came as standard from local Skoda dealer for trim I bought. They are called Denom and are the ones in the octavia brochure.

You can't imagine how worried I am. The more I read through the forum, the less relaxed I get.

What I really want to avoid is the harshness over speed bumps or imperfect asphalt, or uneven sewerage covers etc...

From other topics, I am afraid I may have to change the shock absorbers or the dampers... Springs change is out of the question, because I don't want a lower ride, or go fast in corners.

I am thinking of creating a topic about this, but first I have to wait and see how much stiffer my Octavia with the 17s will be compared to the test driven 16s, and second, check again older topics...

Another strange thing with the Cypriot dealer is that I was told I cannot install rear view camera. That is something I can live with, though it would have been a nice touch
