Wide mouth (crash bar query) pics if you have them?

To be fair it involves a scientific equation to work out if it is worthwhile or not. I bet you would be surprised with the outcome. If only i was smart enough

From the results I've seen from smaller coolers, I doubt that the small amount of extra airflow is a worthwhile difference in cooling anyway. I think the main issue that the OP was concerned about was how the setup is visually. I think that a crash bar, holes cut in it or not, looks rubbish... but that is my opinion of course!

I was just curious how people were running their front mounts. I personally don't mind the look of your crash bar jase. A friend of mine has a stage 4 Astra van running a vxr engine, he did the same to his front bumper

I didn't for one minute even suggest it was a good idea to run without a crash bar! In my opinion, running a widemouth with one doesn't look great. I took the risk to run without one for a while, and will now be fabricating a custom one soon along with a custom cooler setup. That was my choice, therefore my risk.

I have seen some great low inlet temperatures from some small universal intercooler setups on these cars. My point being is that it would be doubtful there is a performance gain by drilling a few holes in the crash bar. Granted, it will increase airflow to it slightly I'm sure, but when the air is already more than cool enough it won't make a difference. Well, not unless you're running a ridiculous amount of boost where every bit of extra cooling is required. I'm sure if that were the case then you'd have a completely custom crash bar and intercooler as a matter of course anyway... or have a different car ha ha!

I think the main question in the thread has been more than answered anyway!

We are going back in time now it was good at the time, things have moved on drastically since then

Good luck with your setup

Cheers fellas

Yes maybe i should have put more or bigger smarty pants, anything is better than nothing

Drill 4 40mm holes your windscreen and see what happens to your face and then tell me it has made no difference to airflow

So you welded in some tube too inside the crash bar to insure the air entering the front holes exited the rear of the crash bar onto your cooler? :)

There would be a slight increase yeah, but would that equate to any noticeable drop in temps of your inlet charged air?

The back of the bar has open slots.

I guess i would of needed vcds to check but i didnt.

And its ensure ;)
