1.2 TSI 105 Bad compression at 8K miles!

Featured Replies

Hi

From the engineering forums I have deduced that test cylinder pressure at cranking speed should idealy be 200psi or just over 14 bar.

VAG give a huge range of 10 to 15 bar (140 - 210psi) for a new engine, Obviously the specs are much tighter than this on the engine production line.

I believe VAG has published huge toerances in order to deflect valid warranty claims - does anyone agree?

You could say my engine should just be nicely run-in at 8K miles, but my cylinder pressures are all under 10 bar with cyl 3 at 7.3 bar (100psi) half the optimum!

These low compressions and blow-by have adversly affected performance and fuel economy (40mpg extra urban) and may have a knock on effect on Cat, lambda sensor and general engine wear through contaminated oil.

The dealer did not do a 'leak down test' so I don't know if its valve or piston blow-by or both.

Bearing in mind that peak cylinder pressure is 1,890 psi (130 bar) then I reckon the blow-by at full load will be excessive.

The car has one year Skoda warranty left, under which I want a new engine fitted.

Has anyone else experience of this issue on a low mileage in warranty car please or any luck with a new engine?

Thanks
