My Computer won't turn off. :o

Every time I try to turn off the computer, it goes through the usual routine but re-boots when it should die.

What am I doing wrong?

Must learn how to use one.

Ok, I think I know what it might be - assuming you're using XP, you get an option when you hit "start" "turn off computer" - with three options for log off, restart and shut down? - Some versions have button to click, others have a drop down style (i think XP pro uses drop down) - This might be highlighted on restart when you maybe just hit return key thinking it will turn off.

If it does it again, just pull power cord out, when its just turned off to restart. I don't"think" it would do any harm. :)

Sounds like you have the "roxio" hiccup

Roxio software sometimes does this (did to mine  )

updates will sort it out

Or failing that .....

insert new user and try again

Only pull the plug as the last resort, although 99 times out of 100 you will get away with this My son did it a couple of months ago and corrupted the registry. I have saves and rescue disks but nothing worked. I had to reformat the disk and reload.

Have you tried holding in the power button for a few seconds ? Not sure if this is any kinder to the machine though.

Ah, just installed (not so) Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum or tried to at least. :(

Off the top of my head, there's an option in XP which is along the lines of "restart the computer if it crashes".

If this is enabled on your machine, then it could be that your machine is crashing when it's closing down, and as a result restarts rather than shutting down.

If this is what's happening, there are two options:

1. Disable the restarting option.

2. Find out why it's crashing on shutdown and fix it...

:)
