What is required/how easy to retrofit/code a mfsw to a F/L Octavia.

Featured Replies

As above what is required bar steering wheel and airbag? What are the costs of nescessary parts to retrofit a multi function steering wheel to my Skoda Octavia Elegance Estate.

Steering wheel in question is a mk2 F/L steering wheel. TIA

Just cost me about £320,but I went for 3 spoke vrs wheel. There are 4 spoke mfsw for sale, and then all you need is the loom and steering module if necessary. Ideally a vcds scan is needed first to see what hardware you have, as you need highline module to support mfsw.

Thanks for your reply, it is a four spoke mfsw I'm thinking about. Any rough ideas for the nescessary loom and steering module at all? :)

I'm currently at a christening mate, but I'll try and get more info to you when I get back.

Like me -- you have your priorities right! Christening? Briskoda? Christening? Briskoda?

I was exactly the same a couple of months ago, being on Briskoda within minutes of coming out of general anaesthetic for emergency surgery and throughout that night! Brisky seems to win every time LOL!

Seriously, yes a VCDS scan is needed, but the OP might just be lucky with a FL Elegance spec car. My preFL did need a change of controller.

Airbag module will be the same on the MFSW as the nonMFSW, so no cost involved there.

Hehe yup. I was there as a +1 and between Briskoda and me, I was bored out of my mind!

My FL VRS had no maxidot, and my VCDS told me I had midline so a new module was needed. Lucked out on a used from a DSG VW for £70 on eBay.

Do I need maxi dot for me to be able to upgrade the steering wheel as I don't have maxi dot.

No, absolutely not.

As Mike says, you don't.  Sorry for the confusion; I mentioned maxidot because I think if you have it, there's a higher chance of a highline module in your car, but I could be wrong.  You could either do a VCDS scan or take the trim off from under the wheel to inspect the module part number. You can then compare it to the Rosstech link further up the page to see what level it is. As said, it needs to be highline for MFSW.

Far easier to do a VCDS scan -- to remove the lower steering column cowling is a steering wheel/airbag off jobbie. to get to to the two screws holding the upper and lower halves together.

A standard non maxidot/non MFSW Elegance"should" have a steering column controller that is capable of handling just computer and cruise -- in other words a midline which won't support MFSW.

Make sure that when you compare the module you have in now to one that you are potentially going to buy that it is the same type -- type 1 or type 2 as described by Ross Tech in the link given by Planehazza above.. This type variation is linked to the type 1 or type 2 airbag slipring, and type 1 SCCM cannot mix with type 2 slipring, or vice versa,

Don't shy away from the Chinese versions -- they are genuine VAG, and I bought a can gateway from China for my 54 plate years ago, and it hasn't given one hint of trouble.

Mike

Cheers Mike.  I almost bought one of those from la_phily on eBay for £43, but I wanted it for the weekend so was lucky and found one from a VW.  The one from China would probably end up with tax and handling being added anyway. Regardless, £43 or £70; it's better than new VAG prices :D
