Octavia Mk3 1.6TDi 105 or 110?

Featured Replies

Am seriously thinking of getting an Octavia in the autumn to replace my diasppointing Polo. Having owned a 105 1.6TDi Fabia prior to the Polo, is there much difference between the 105 and 110 in an Octavia?

I cant imagine there is much but there must be a reason behind the increase? Leaning towards the 110  as obviously they are a newer car, but would consider a lower mileage 105 if the price was right.

Am looking at nearly new ex SUK fleet Id imagine. The car would be for the long term.

The Octavia engines are in transition

The 1.6 diesel will be replaced late next year by a new 1.5

The 1.2 patrols have been replaced by new 1 litre 115s (3 cylinder engine)

The 1.4 petrol is being replaced in Autumn by a new 1.5 with variable features to improve torque

Without knowing your mileage or mix of road styles, I would avoid a euro6 emissions diesel for long term use. There are stories of very expensive repairs as the equipment to meet the emissions can fail. If you get a £2000+ repair bill it will negate any fuel savings

If you are looking to change in the Autumn then try and get the new 1.5 petrol.

There isn't the great saving on the ex management or hire fleet cars there use to be. At one time you could pick them up for 25-40% off list price. Probably be nearer only 20% now which is pointless as you can get discounts of that much on brand new by choosing a broker on sites like cars2buy.com. Even dealers give you min £2000 off and low rate finance. Unless you get a seperate loan, the used ones get a rubbish interest rate of 10+% so can end up paying £1-2k extra in interest so if financed work out more than new.

One other thing if you are keeping long term, ordering new allows you to add a couple of options that would have always niggled you if you got a car without them

Exactly, lots of change and facelift due in 2017, so maybe hold fire.

The ex Skoda fleet cars, lots are ex rental and not cheaper than new. Plenty of big discounts on new Octavias around and 0%.

Any advice on the new 1.0 TSI petrol engine compared to the outgoing 1.2? Am looking to get a new Octavia and wonder whether better deals available on outgoing 1.2 more than compensate for the likely worse economy for the 1.2 compared to the 1.0???

Cheers
