Cars/MPV's big enough to sleep in?

Featured Replies

My brother has been looking at a Caddy Life or Combo and one of these kits which look good:

I have slept in the back of my Mazda6 estate as the seats go flat and it's just long enough but as others have said, the low ceiling is an issue and makes it uncomfortable, same for just sitting out the back of the car.  I've done it a few times when I've been at endurance events where there's no space for the tent and I just want to get some rest but it's not something I'd want to do intentionally.

The Amdro kit looks really innovative and seems to fit nicely.

Wonder if it would slide into the back of a Golf SV or Peugeot 5008?

Would sit nicely in my garage then lift it in tighten up the clamps and away digging for the weekend!

It's worth asking them to find out what the smallest vehicle is that will take it, I don't know the SV or 5008 at all although I do think the unit needs a good amount of space as Caddy Life (mpv version) has some more plastic moulding in the boot compared to the combi/van versions and it means it's a little narrow for the Ambro unit, it needs a bit of tweaking to fix.

There's possibly other smaller units that would suit the vehicles you're looking at, I couldn't find the Ambro initially and came across a few others first which may suit what you need better.  I think it's a fantastic idea when as you say you can just take it out of the vehicle when not needing it plus you can keep it when changing vehicle rather than a fixed conversion which stays with the vehicle.

Reckon I could get some nice marine ply and knock something together and mine wouldn't need to be a double, only a reasonable single is needed.

That was why the Golf SV was being considered as the front passenger seat folds forwards kinda flat on its self. This gives 2.4m of length from dashboard to tailgate....ummm interesting.

Recent episode of Wheeler Dealers, featured a VW 25 van, where ED made a bed /couch etc with cooking /sink facilities .But ,If you're not bothered about fuel consumption, there's always a Clarke conversion Transit LWB/HI Top to look at. Microwave+water heater ,all you'd have to do is to modify interior to make bed/ couches.

Sharan/Alhambra or Transporter would fit the bill.

Plenty around on budget with decent spec via Das Auto used network

Just got this today but not sure if it will stay.

My original plan was to move it straight on to back trade for a Caddy maxi life but having just collected it and put 18 miles on the clock from its 350 it had earlier, it is quite nice.

Surprised by how much room it has and it is top spec which makes getting rid so soon a real PITA.

Decisions, decisions.

Is that the Touran?

Wheeler dealer Ben.

Did you sell your Defender or did I misread that a few weeks ago.

Defender 90 went a few months ago, as it was not getting the love or use it desperately needed.

On a bit of a roll but just been out again in this and it's getting to be really nice.

It's an SV, Mr Gadgetman, not as big as the Touran.

Wasn't sure as from certain angles they look very similar.

Our dealer hasn't had a Touran in yet to demo.

Ironically the person that had this for 1 week and a whole 352 miles, changed this SV for a new Touran, as his other half didn't like the seat after, buying it!
