Fabia Limp Mode

Featured Replies

Hello

I own Skoda Fabia 60 plate Elegance 1.2TSI 105km DSG and about 49500 miles on the clock. Exactly 3 days ago my dashboard displays - engine, EPC, and ESP. And it all feels like it went into limp mode. Turbo doesn't kick in and there's massive lack of power. It still drives but I need to change gears manually and drive on higher gears because engine is really struggling on lower revs - minimum 2000 for smoother drive. Does anyone know what could it be? And how safe is driving on limp mode? And would that be covered by warranty?

I called up Skoda Service today but unfortunately I have to wait until next week Wednesday. I just want to add, next week Wednesday I already had booked full service, mot and gearbox check so now they will have a bit more to do with my car.

I appreciate all help and answers,

Regards,

No.3 ignition lead failed most likely. Common problem due to heat from exhaust underneath it. Dont drive too far, because the coilpak will breakdown and thats quite expensive.

Later engines have the revised ignition leads with additional ribbed trunking covering the leads (officially marten [rodent] protection but in practice to protect from excess heat from exhaust)

Skoda dealer prices are ridiculous at £25 per lead and something like £260 for the coilpak plus half or one hour labour plus some dealers will insist on a diagnostic too at £90.

Eurocarparts and GSF stock replaceplacements much cheaper. Personally I recommend parts made by BBT, better than OE parts (check manufacturer before buying)

Thank you for your answer. Just tomorrow I need to get to work, it's 23 miles each way so 46 overall. Do you think I could do that? And then I will stop driving completely until it gets to service.

I still have warranty on this car, do you think it would be covered by that?

If you've already driven for 3 days like that, the coilpak is probably cooked. Our octavia 1.2tsi we only drove it like that for less than 10 miles to get home and to the dealer and the coilpak went too. With "goodwill" it cost £176 to fix, but car (octavia) only just 4 years old and full dealer service history.

It's a known problem across the range particularly Yeti but dealers deny that it is so.

Parts from eurocarparts/gsf will cost around £80 iirc.

I ain't been driving that much, I think I've done under 5 miles in past few days.....so not so much. I just want it to survive a bit more because I really need car for tomorrow but I'm affraid it will get even worse.
