engine management light on

Featured Replies

fabia 1.4 16v x reg

i posted a question a couple of days ago about a flickering of an orange light on the speedo dial.with help from this forum i realised it was the ASR light due to the slippery roads.

so today the 1st of 2006, i thought i'll go for a ride (the first for a couple of days),i started the car then it started to judder a fair bit then i reversed from my driveway into the road, then i noticed the Engine Management light came on :thumbdwn:

i turned off the engine straight away and looked under the bonnet, check the levels of the water and oil,and for loose wires but everything was ok.

i started the engine the Engine Management light was still on but the juddering stopped and engine sounded ok,so i went for a 5 min drive round the block everything is fine and the temperature gauge was normal.

has anyone got a clue what happened ? i think there was a block in the fuel line which caused the car to judder causing the light to come on.

do i have to take car back to the garage to reset the light or can i do it ?

not a great start to the year !!!

thanks

ps i reversed the car out of the garage this morning and it was fine !!

try re-starting it 20 times, bet it goes out by itself! :)

Is it just the engine management (EPC) light or is it the engine light itself?

I had these two appear on a semi-regular basis on my previous Fabia, a 1.4 16v and the dealer tried so many things to fix it that it just got silly - the final one was part of the wiring loom.

Whichever light is on the system will have stored some fault codes. You could take it to the dealer but being out of warranty they'll charge to just plug their diagnostic kit in. If you know anyone with VAG-COM it might be worth asking them for a favour to see what the code is.

possiblity of the legendary temperature sensor.
